Can NY Dentists Administer the Monkeypox Vaccine?

Apr 8, 2024
The US Department of Health and Human Services has amended a Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act declaration to authorize additional providers, including dentists and dental students, to vaccinate patients against monkeypox virus, smallpox and other orthopoxviruses in a declared emergency (which as of right now has been declared). New York does not currently permit dentists to give monkeypox vaccinations, HOWEVER, the federal law now preempts New York on this point and permits dentists to do so under the federal law as long as the dentist has received the training specified in the federal law to do so.
