VETSmile pilot connects veterans with dental care
The US Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Care and Payment Innovation launched its VETSmile pilot program a year ago with the goal of improving access to dental care for veterans who are not eligible for dental care through the VA, and the effort has met needs for 2,200 veterans who received care through nearly 5,000 patient visits. Chrystalla Orthodoxou, D.D.S., group practice director at NYU College of Dentistry, one of the program's partners, said it has been "an honor and a privilege to help improve the lives of those who have served and protected our country." The ADA is advising the VA's Center for Care and Payment Innovation on implementation of the program and collaborating to identify opportunities to expand and publicize it.
