Monkeypox patients may develop oral lesions
As many as 70% of patients with monkeypox present with mouth lesions, and dentists and hygiene professionals should be aware of this symptom so appropriate referrals can be offered, says infectious disease specialist Jeffrey Jahre, M.D., of St. Luke's University Health Network in Pennsylvania. Dr. Jahre says oral monkeypox lesions may look similar to canker sores, cold sores, cuts and other conditions, including hand, foot and mouth disease.
