Let’s talk shots: Free webinar helps dentists discuss COVID-19 vaccine with patients

Dentists and dental team members seeking to learn more on how to effectively discuss the COVID-19 vaccine with their patients can attend a free webinar discussing a key role the profession can play in increasing vaccine confidence.
   
Let’s Talk Shots! – Effective Patient Conversations & the COVID-19 Vaccine will stream on March 3, noon Central time. The webinar will provide dentists with talking points on the value, safety and necessity of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
   
Continuing education credit is pending.
   
The learning objectives of the webinar include:
• Strengthen confidence in the dental team’s role and ability to discuss and promote the COVID-19 vaccine with their patients.
• Deliver proven tools for talking through vaccine fact or fiction with patients in the dental office.
• Learn motivational interviewing techniques to listen to patients’ concerns and address them in a patient-centered manner resulting in shared decision-making.
• Incorporate cultural and racial sensitivity and humility into discussions of vaccine hesitancy.

Speakers include Hugh Silk, M.D., a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s department of family medicine and community health and cofounder of “Smiles for Life,” the award-winning national curriculum on oral health for health providers; Brittany Seymour, D.D.S., associate professor and global health discipline director at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine; and Winifred J. Booker, D.D.S., pediatric dentist and founder of The Children’s Oral Health Institute who serves on the 2020 Oral Health Committees for the Surgeon General’s Commission on Oral Health in America.
