COURSE TITLE

" Geriatric Dental Medicine and the Current State of Dental School Education"



EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

This course will discuss oral health care for older adults with a focus on improving access to care, models

of inter-professional collaborations in geriatric care as well as the challenges of treating older adults living with disabilities.

In addition, with his insight as the Associate Dean of Students at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Calabrese will be discussing the current state of Dental Education.


INSTRUCTORS CURRICULUM VITAE

Dr. Joseph Calabrese

Dr. Joseph Calabrese received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and a certificate of Advanced Graduate Study for Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) in 1991 and 1992, respectively. He completed a US Department of Health and Human Services / Bureau of Health Professions Faculty Training Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the Boston Medical Center / Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Medicine in 1994.
Dr. Calabrese joined the faculty at GSDM in 1992. He currently serves as Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Geriatric Dental Medicine at the rank of Clinical Professor in the Department of General at GSDM. He is the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Team Dentist for Boston University Athletics and Faculty Advisor to the American Student Dental Association at GSDM. In addition, he is a Lecturer at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and has been a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Forsyth Dental Hygiene Program and the Mount Ida Dental Hygiene Program. He is also an attending dentist in Geriatric Dental Medicine at Saint Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dorchester, Boston Medical Center in Boston and Hebrew Senior Life in Roslindale and Dedham, MA.
Dr. Calabrese hold membership in the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, Special Care Dentistry Association, American Dental Education Association, American Dental Association, American Student Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Calabrese is a fellow in the American College of Dentist and International College of Dentist and was recognized by the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine with the distinguished alumni award for service to the school, community and the profession.
