“Evidence-Based Approach to Contemporary Endodontic Microsurgery”
Richard L. Marcus DDS
Dr. Richard L. Marcus earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Toronto in 1977, where he graduated top of his class and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. During his studies, Dr. Marcus was one of the principal investigators studying maxillary palatine expansion to treat chronic maxillary sinusitis. These studies resulted in several publications.
He went on to complete general practice residency at Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia in 1978. Studying under Samuel Seltzer, one of the main dental pioneers of modern endodontics, Dr. Marcus developed keen interest in diagnosis and management of orofacial pain. It is his work with Dr. Seltzer that inspired him to pursue postgraduate education in endodontics. He received his certification in Endodontics from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1980, where he also served as a Chief resident.
Dr. Marcus specializes in all facets of surgical and non-surgical endodontics and has appeared on “The Late Show” with David Letterman to demonstrate pain-free root canals. He is also a founding member of Dentists for a Better Huntington.
Dr. Marcus has lectured in both the United States and in Canada about Cone Beam CT technology and radiographic diagnosis, and has published several articles on chronic pain management through nutrition manipulation in Journal of Pain and Journal of Psychiatric Medicine. He is a member of American Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, American Association of Endodontics & American Academy of Oral Medicine.
Ivan Lukachynets DDS
Dr. Ivan Lukachynets, DDS graduated from the Honors Program with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Pace University in NYC. During his undergraduate studies he was offered a prestigious internship at the United Nations Headquarters to serve as an interpreter. Following his undergraduate education, Dr. Lukachynets attended Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While at Stony Brook, he received numerous awards and recognitions, including American Association of Endodontists and NYS Association of Endodontists awards for outstanding clinical achievements in Endodontics. He was also involved in numerous research investigations that studied Laser applications in Dentistry and received laser certification from World Federation for Laser Dentistry.
After earning his doctorate degree, Dr. Lukachynets completed a General Practice Dental Residency at the Northshore/ Long Island Jewish hospital, where he concentrated in providing care in all facets of dentistry. Following his residency, Dr. Lukachynets completed an Advanced Specialty Education Program in Endodontics at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he simultaneously served as Chief Resident and educator to residents and students. During his residency Dr. Lukachynets also participated in one of the first fresh-cadaver surgical courses, an invitation-only event held in IDIFL in Florida.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Lukachynets has been largely involved in outreach missions providing dental care to underserved populations, including surgical missions to Madagascar, Africa and Remote Area Medical trips across the United States.
Dr. Ivan Lukachynets has lectured extensively on various topics in clinical endodontics in residency programs, dental societies and multi-specialty study clubs across New York City and Long Island area.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES AND GOALS
In order to provide an effective learning experience, Dr. Marcus and Dr. Lukachynets will be utilizing a Keynote-slide presentation, which will focus on review of best available peer-reviewed literature as it pertains to clinical aspects of surgical endodontics. A detailed review of clinical cases will also be presented.
