EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES & GOALS

Navigating federal, state and local employment laws can be overwhelming. However, it is critical for all employers, of any size, to understand their legal obligations and how to minimize exposure to employment law liability.

As an employer, you are responsible for complying with federal and state wage and hour laws. Wage and hour claims typically arise when an employer fails to properly pay overtime, misclassifies exempt and nonexempt employees and independent contractors, or fails to provide required rest and meal periods.

Employers must also be mindful of their obligations under federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws, including laws prohibiting sexual harassment in the workplace. There are steps employers can take to minimize their liability for harassment claims, including maintaining a robust policy against unlawful harassment with a clear complaint procedure for employees to invoke. This training will provide dentists with the basic tools to minimize their exposure to employment law liability while still operating a functional and efficient dental practice.

Training participants will have gained an understanding of:

1)      Federal and state wage and hour laws

2)      Federal and state sexual harassment laws

3)      Lawful and effective strategies for managing employees.

EDUCATIONAL METHODS

This planned educational training program will include the use of a Keynote presentation, an overview of relevant employment laws, the distribution of a sexual harassment policy, complaint form and acknowledgement of training form for New York employers, and a question and answer session.
